Participants of UCL-Japan Youth Challenge
The UCL-Japan Youth Challenge is an annual summer school programme held at University College London (UCL) and Cambridge University. The programme aims to help young people address social issues and gain international experience through lectures from experts across various fields, guiding students towards pathways to top global universities.
In 2024, the theme of the programme was "Space & Us." As part of the lecture series, Mr. Yutaro Tanaka, a satellite propulsion engineer from Mitsubishi Electric, delivered a presentation on his role in the "SLIM" (Smart Lander for Investigating the Moon) project. SLIM, which successfully landed on the Moon in January 2024, is a groundbreaking mission led by JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) with significant contributions from Mitsubishi Electric.
Mr. Tanaka Presenting Mitsubishi Electric's Space Business
During the talk, Mr. Tanaka shared insights into the challenges and innovations behind the project, providing students with an inside-look at the collaboration between Mitsubishi Electric and JAXA. Approximately 84 students attended the lecture gaining valuable knowledge about space exploration, and Japan's role in advancing lunar research.
