The Spoken Business Japanese contest ‘Sir Peter Parker Awards’, named in honour of the late British businessman who was considered the pioneer of modern management, was held on 7th November at the Brunei Gallery on the University of London campus.
This contest was established by School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) University of London and the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) in 1990, and Mitsubishi Electric Europe B.V. is supporting this.

The Sir Peter Parker Awards for this Contest are widely recognised as having made a significant contribution to the recent growth in the use of Japanese in business, as well as having benefited participants in their professional careers.
This speaking contest and resulting awards aim to deepen the understanding of Japanese business culture by businessmen and women in Europe through study of the Japanese language, and to improve mutual understanding through better communication.

The level of Japanese of the finalists is always very high, and this year was no exception. After all the participants delivered their inspired speeches, the 32nd Awards this year was won by Ms. Anna Papai-Vonderviszt. Hans-Joerg Hinkel, EMEA Head of Communication and also one of judges said ‘Mitsubishi Electric Europe are proud to be a supporter of the Sir Peter Parker Awards, which are an excellent example of the cooperation between academia and business, giving practitioners of Japanese a forum to express not only their language skills but also their business acumen.’
