Special Olympics World Games is the world's largest inclusive sports event. The games bring together people from across the globe to celebrate and promote recognition and inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities and the event attracts thousands of athletes. Special Olympics World Games 2023 was held in Berlin. For many athletes this was the pinnacle of their sporting careers and offered them a life-changing opportunity to showcase their sporting abilities at an international level.

Colleagues from the Mitsubishi Electric Europe UK Branch were delighted to accept the opportunity to help the UK Team as they prepared to travel to Berlin for the World Games.

On Sunday evening before their departure, the athletes arrived at the hotel where they were staying overnight, before departing the next day to Berlin. Our team joined other corporate volunteers to welcome over 100 Special Olympians and help them to book in, sort their equipment and kit out and generally get settled as they arrived at the Hotel. Volunteering also gave the team the opportunity to meet the athletes and chat to them, helping to make them feel welcome, looked after and ready for their Herculean challenge.
