Solutions for Digitalisation

Comprehensive Guide to Safeguarding Operational Technology

A comprehensive “defense in-depth” approach to Cyber Security is required for the OT environment. This encompasses hardening and defending the operational technology on several levels - the Human, Physical, Device, and Network layers and which also includes consideration of the supply chain, the operational and maintenance phases of a product/solution, as well as the final decommissioning and disposal.
Mitsubishi Electric places a strong focus on cyber security and is actively involved in various cyber security initiatives. Mitsubishi Electric FA has also received certification for the Electro-technical Commission’s IEC 62443-4-1 standard regarding the Security Development Lifecycle (SDL) of industrial automation and control systems.

7 Quick Wins for an Agile Manufacturing Future

Many of the smart manufacturing ideas and strategies that are discussed assume a base level of automation and integration that are much easier to achieve in greenfield sites that have been built to be smart from the ground up.
However, there are a number of simple ideas that can be implemented with minimal time
and cost that can have a big impact on addressing today’s manufacturing challenges.

Digitalisation in Electronics Assembly

Global challenges such as geopolitical instabilities, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemicas well as evolving consumer trends, present electronics companies with many challengesthat require cutting-edge solutions.

Digital Wave in Water Treatment

“Water is the driving force of all nature” is a quotation from Leonardo
da Vinci. Water is also a vital resource in the economic development, the
agriculture, all sectors of industry and the sustainability of communities.
We should therefore do everything possible to conserve our water
resources. Discover how new technologies facilitate this.

Robotics in Manufacturing

Cooperative Manufacturing with Robotics

Robots and Cobots can be hugely beneficial in the production environment, but the appropriate choice of technology and how well it integrates with the human workforce are critical factors in the success of any installation. The decision-making processes can be complex and the best option for any given application is not always immediately obvious.

This paper sets out definitions and expectations for collaborative robots, industrial robots and human workers while examining the various factors for consideration including: safety, production quality, production volume, data availability, costs of operation, impacts of long-term changes and how to future-proof the production strategy.

Improve Top-Down Performance with Integrated Robotics

Improve Top-Down Performance with Integrated Robotics

As robots are becoming more agile and intelligent, workers are safer and production lines more consistent in their quality and efficiency. While robots frequently added to end of line operations after the installation of core production, they are now becoming part of an integrated mechatronic offering from advanced OEMs using highly integrated electrical and mechanical systems to improve competitive performance, gain energy savings, and reduce mechanical footprints.

Maximize Machine Vision Guided Robotics

Machine vision systems are increasingly being used to guide robot actions but to truly reap the benefits of vision guided robotics, you need to select the right system for your application. To determine this you need to consider the needs and goals of your operation, including the size and orientation of workpieces, as well as processing times.

In this white paper, we will discuss the criteria that can help you select the best machine vision system for your robotics application. We will also discuss some of the hidden costs associated with 3D machine vision systems, which can help drive your decision.

Cobots and Humans in Modern Manufacturing

The popularity of Cobots, which are among the most impressive and effective tools of Industry 4.0 revolution, continues to grow. They are used by small and large companies that explore the advantages of a new approach to robotization.
Cobots are most beneficial where new applications of robotics are being sought.

Smart Machine Building

Advanced Motion to Drive Machine Builders' Competitiveness

To help businesses fully realize the potential of Industry 4.0, machine builders need to leverage state-of-the-art automation components.
This whitepaper offers a guide to selecting the most suitable drives and controls for the creation of advanced motion solutions.

5 Smart Machine Trends You Need to Know

Standardization of network adoption across manufacturing operations, and convergence with office and operations systems have proliferated the need to enhance information flows from production machinery and warehouse operations while improving the performance, intelligence, and communications of individual components.
The following discussion will cover key advancements and recommendations all OEMs should be adopting in their design processes to stay current and competitive.

Data Science in Manufacturing

Visual Guide to Data Science in Manufacturing

With the growing complexity of manufacturing, more complex solutions have to be implemented. Proper data science strategy can help manufacturing companies achieve a competitive advantage in ways that were not possible even couple of years ago.
We at Mitsubishi Electric understand that data science can be quite overwhelming to start with, but we believe this simple guide will help you in making first choices and considering initial technologies.

Data Science in Battery Production

Lithium-ion battery manufacture is a demanding application environment, with pressure to increase yield and reduce waste while at the same time driving up the speed of production. And with rapid market growth on a global scale, manufacturers need to explore new avenues to gain a competitive advantage.
Data holds the key, but while data availability is huge, traditional monitoring of machine overview data is no longer sufficient to drive the productivity gains that are required. This paper examines how we can dig deeper for genuine insights in the operation.

Get More Value from your VFD

In a world where motors power critical systems across industries, variable frequency drives (VFDs) have become an essential component for success. Modern VFDs are smarter, more compact, more powerful, more energy efficient, and have a wealth of advanced capabilities that organizations might not be taking advantage of.

This e-book will introduce you to some of those innovative capabilities, and, we hope, motivate you to seek out even more innovative and revolutionary ways to get more out of your VFDs than ever before.

4 Things to Know When Designing Winder Controls

Winding operations are the most difficult and complex of any inverter application.
Rolls of industrial webs can be as large as 180 inches in diameter, unspooling to a paper core 6 inches in diameter. The web therefore must maintain the appropriate tension throughout the machine as well as it also needs to travel through the process steps at the desired velocity, which requires correlating roll velocity with line velocity. This requires the drive and control system to calculate and modify the angular velocity in real time throughout the process.

Advances in Motor Technology and Energy Efficiency

Factories and machine builders are seeking ways to boost motor efficiency to intelligently maximize energy savings. At the same time, these users are transitioning from induction motors to interior permanent motors (IPM). These trends are propelling the need for higher performance drives that are facilitated through such innovations as variable frequency inverter technology.
